Maureen Grayson's work explores journeys through time and beyond imaginary horizons. The mystic elements of memories, darkness, and fantasy are connected through textures, marks, and a dramatic application of colour. She is constantly drawn to the volatile effects of natural phenomena on the landscape, changes in light, temperature, and season.

Her current paintings have adopted elements of threads and fibres which are collaged into the surface to create a 3-dimensional effect. This method of working relates to earlier compositions which were mainly constructed in rich impasto combined with string and hessian for texture.

Her studio time involves hours spent experimenting with dyes extracted from crepe and tissue papers to form the basis of many works which are developed through a meticulous process of layering and collating.

Maureen describes her art as a journey of discovery into the unknown, often with the most incredible and rewarding results.

Maureen Grayson is a London-based artist working predominantly in mixed-media abstraction. Themes exploring the organic elements of the natural environment are executed through an intense application of textures and mark-making. Past years spent working as a textile print designer and maker of greetings cards influenced a keen eye for detail in her compositions.

While describing herself as an intuitive painter, Maureen derives great inspiration from the open heathland and pathways surrounding her home and workspace. In 2021 she won the Outstanding Work Achievement in the annual Hampstead, 'Picture the Heath' competition.

Over the past years, she has exhibited with the Society of Women Artists and the Affordable Art Fair as winner of the Cass Art Prize for sculpture. Her recent solo show and Open Studio took place at the OmniDe Gallery in Belsize Lane, Hampstead.
