Mixed media drawings with found pigments, charcoal, pastels

Ivan Grieve is a self-taught artist based in Devon, He works with a range of materials to develop surfaces through sensory expressions, that evolve into landscapes. These become dynamic and intimate works that emerge from gestural mark-making and experimentation with pigments and grounds.

Grieve documents the landscape through sketches on-site with charcoal and pencil in combination with natural materials, making minor interventions at the site to get in touch with the environment that he is working with. In many of his artworks, glimpses of natural pigments and marks made with found materials can be discovered.

This element of the creative process is key to witnessing a feeling of the landscape.

Back at the studio, Grieve begins working on Fabriano paper or pastel paper using materials gathered from the landscape including feathers, clay, mud and leaves, adding studio materials and pigments including Bideford Black, Shellac and Gesso leading him to build and record an expression of his experience in the landscape.

The studio is where I hold a variety of materials some natural, some unusual with which to express further my dialogue with the landscape.

Grieve is an ambassador for the charity Outside In. His time is divided between being out in the landscape and back at his small studio. He values the importance of being out walking and sketching along the rivers and hills in South Devon throughout the year. A rendezvous with each of the Seasons as they come and go!

The river like time continues to flow and is both a physical and metaphysical element in my work, flowing as she does from the moor to the sea.

Manipulated digital photographs printed on canvas

Peter Wiseman is a self-taught photographer who for many years experimented with creative photography employing a variety of media and using his images to complement his creative writing. But this was put on hold when, in addition to his day job, he and his wife took on the lease of an old school, refurbished it, and created a Gallery for local artists. This became part of the village community and they ran it for 10 years. The creation of and running of the gallery, together with Peter's own career progression and family commitments, meant he had little time for photography.

A change in circumstances allowed Wiseman to take up photography again and become a photographic artist. Although a new digital camera and the software supplied with it enable him to continue to develop his creative skills, his art is firmly based on capturing the right images to convey a message.

I think of myself as a photographic artist using the camera to gather images for artistic use, rather than a photographer using a camera to record what is in front of the lens.

Wiseman's challenge is to use his imagination and eye for composition and colour to create artworks that make the audience think and question what they are looking at. Many of his images relate to contemporary issues, from the global environment to personal experiences.

I look at the world with an eye for the material that can be manipulated and enhanced to create bold statement images to convey ideas in striking, pieces of thought-provoking artwork.

Victoria Strelciunaite is a self-taught artist from Lithuania, currently based in Surrey. Her work is inspired by her personal experiences and observations of the world around her. Through her paintings, she seeks to explore the complex interplay between emotion, perception, and memory.

Painting gives me great pleasure; I especially enjoy creating bold and expressive works that reflect my innermost thoughts and emotions. I try to distill fragments that I like and put them onto the canvas.
Victoria is adept at a variety of styles and genres, but she has a particular love for abstract cubism. This style, characterised by bold shapes and vibrant colours, allows her to explore the interplay between form and space, creating pieces that are both dynamic and visually striking.

As an abstract cubist artist, Strelciunaite's creative journey is a testament to the limitless possibilities of artistic exploration and expression. Her practice is driven by a deep fascination with the interplay of form, perspective, and fragmented reality, embracing the essence of both abstraction and cubism. Through her work, she seeks to unravel the intricate layers of human perception, challenging conventional notions of representation and inviting viewers to embark on a visual adventure.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Pablo Picasso, Strelciunaite aims to capture the essence of fragmented existence, where multiple perspectives coexist and intersect. The abstract nature of her art allows her to deconstruct and reconstruct reality, providing a canvas for emotions, ideas, and narratives to intertwine and evolve. Through the use of geometric shapes, distorted figures, and playful juxtapositions, she creates a visual language that speaks to the complexities and diversity of the human experience.

My process is an intuitive exploration of the canvas, a dance between spontaneity and calculated precision. Each brushstroke becomes a deliberate act of dismantling and rebuilding, a reflection of the constant flux and evolution within our surroundings. Colours, textures, and forms are carefully selected to evoke emotional responses and provoke contemplation.

For Strelciunaite art is a powerful medium for connection and conversation. Her work strives to engage viewers in a dialogue that transcends language and cultural barriers, allowing them to bring their unique perspectives to the canvas. Through this exchange, new narratives are formed, and a shared understanding of the complexities of our world emerges.

In essence, Strelciunaite's art is an invitation to embrace the beauty of abstraction, the puzzle of fragmented realities, and the freedom of multiple perspectives. It is a celebration of the inherent diversity and intricacies of the human experience.

Through my abstract cubist practice, I aim to ignite curiosity, inspire contemplation, and spark a renewed appreciation for the ever-evolving nature of art and existence itself.
